We put together a list of ten of the most sustainable restaurants in Los Angeles.
When dining out, restaurant guests are more and more interested in spending their money at establishments that support the community and the environment. With that in mind, we wanted to create a list of restaurants that are taking the most action to reduce their food waste footprint, source ingredients locally, and become more energy efficient.
There is no one profile for a Locali customer beyond the fact that they are all concerned about the future of food in this world and in turn, committed to eating right. Forgetting our social and environmental missions, the bottom line is that we make damn good food!
It is so rare to have the opportunity to serve guests in a setting that allows us to grow some of our own ingredients, sit under olive and fig trees, highlight our sustainable wine in its own bungalow and surround the experience with all of the elements. We are not a typical restaurant with a specific formula and concept. Instead, PFW is an organic, always-changing environment. Constantly being planted and pruned, modified with new pieces of natural and manmade art, an evolving menu, and even a few friendly squirrels, hummingbirds, and butterflies share in the experience with our guests. The one constant is our commitment to sourcing the best ingredients, constantly innovating, and providing our guests with a truly authentic and welcoming experience.
The Morenas and their team at The Albright have been trailblazers in sustainability and greening efforts. Recognized as the first sustainable business on the Pier and awarded the 2016 SQA Award winners, The Albright faithfully follows the triple bottom line framework and aims to help create a green movement across all businesses on the Pier. They believe running sustainable businesses that also support other local businesses and vendors, will engender a sense of respect and social responsibility from the Santa Monica community.
Kreation is committed to using organic, seasonal fruits and vegetables purchased locally as much as possible. They flood the body’s cells with vitamins, minerals, and enzymes that cleanse, heal, and nourish. Our goal has always been to provide clean fuel for the mind, body and spirit. We love our community and work tirelessly to help our guests “Kreate a New You”.
Élephante is proud to be a Carbon Neutral business. In partnership with GreenPlaces, we have committed to conducting annual carbon assessments to understand the emissions from our business. Based on those findings, we are focused on developing strategies to reduce emissions where we can through initiatives like recycling, composting, decarbonizing our meat offerings, exploring cleaner cooking options and more. Then we offset our footprint by investing in verified environmental projects around the globe that reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
By demonstrating the viability of a delicious plant-based, healthier alternative in the fast food restaurant format, we seek to expose millions of customers to new cruelty free and environmentally sustainable choices.
We blazed some trails most notably with our full embrace of an all-glass takeaway program, to our knowledge the first cafe to make that commitment permanently. Since then, more than a dozen and growing coffee shops around the country have embraced all-glass as their takeaway options, with more making the commitment to a #GlassRevolution. From that to solar power, a focus on biodegradable or compostable materials in required disposables or coffee packaging, we feel proud of our commitment to working to only make a positive impact on our climate as a business.
Portable, craveable, sustainably farmed, everyday, inclusive, healthy food that is consciously working to evolve our food supply and address the food sensitivity issues that we and our children are facing today.
In a year of great challenge and seemingly unanswerable questions, the two creatives felt inspired to take matters into their own hands, using the mental and physical space available to create Crudo e Nudo, an Italian-inspired raw bar and pandemic pop-up. With “The Birth of Venus” serving as a metaphorical true north of inspiration, Crudo e Nudo was likewise born of turbulent seas to offer something beautiful. Sourcing local fish from sustainable purveyors, the two began hosting vibrant, socially distant evenings from Venice to Echo Park while utilizing the outdoor spaces of new partnerships - primarily bars looking to add a culinary component to keep their own operations afloat. This spirit of communities supporting one another and environmentally-minded practices became the heart of Crudo e Nudo.
Committed to the triple bottom line—people, planet, and profit—our management team aims to make our restaurant as environmentally conscious as possible. From water to waste, disposables to chemicals, locally sourced food to the materials we use to outfit our space, sustainability is always at the forefront of our minds. We are constantly trying to reduce our impact on the environment by taking action on operational efficiency, ingredients, and carbon offsets.
